Look me in the Mirror, 2010

The story exists only between the pictures… Russian film theorist Sergei Eisenstein first published this theory in the 1920’s. He believed that you didn’t have to show the picture of a man acting hungry in a film – you could just show a man, and in the next shoot an empty plate, and then people would create the story of a hungry man in their heads.

I am interested in our perception of the world around us. The perception of things is nothing and everything at the same time. If you are looking at another person, it is entirely up to you, how you perceive this view, and what comes to mind when you see this person. The only definition of the person you can put forth is your own. At the same time, a person is a person, no matter if you are looking at him/her or not. The interest in perception is present in this project: In the element of doubt about the reality in the pseudo-world these pictures depict. That slight twist of reality, which is subtle enough to be reality and fiction simultaneously.
